Apple rejects the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) proposal.
Apple shareholders have rejected a proposal to abolish the company's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, which was part of a broader movement led by former President Donald Trump. The company remains committed to DEI initiatives, despite legal challenges and opposition from conservative groups.

Apple shareholders rejected a proposal to eliminate the company's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. This proposal was brought forth by the National Center for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank, as part of a broader movement against DEI, led by former President Donald Trump. According to the proposal, Apple should reduce its diversity programs and align with Trump’s anti-DEI policies. During a shareholder vote held on Tuesday, 97% of shareholders rejected the proposal. Apple management, showing its commitment to DEI initiatives, opposed the suggestion.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has had cordial relations with Trump in the past. During Trump’s administration, Apple benefited from reduced tariffs on iPhones made in China. After a meeting between Cook and Trump last week, Apple announced plans to invest $500 billion in the U.S. over the next five years, creating 20,000 jobs. Similarly, Costco also rejected the same DEI-related proposal during its annual meeting. Companies, including Apple, are viewing diversity regulations as essential to business success.
Stephen Padfield, a representative of the National Center for Public Policy Research, argued that "forced diversity is not good for business." He suggested that Apple should alter its DEI policies in accordance with court rulings, warning that such initiatives could lead to future legal issues.
Recently, Florida Attorney General James Utmeier filed a federal lawsuit against Target, accusing the company of making poor decisions and alienating consumers due to its DEI policies. Analysts believe that Apple may also need to consider legal changes to its DEI strategies. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, emphasized the company’s desire to maintain its culture but acknowledged that certain adjustments to DEI programs might be necessary in response to legal requirements.
According to Apple's latest DEI report released in 2022, one-third of its employees are white and Asian, with nearly two-thirds being male. This trend is consistent across other tech companies. While some companies are making efforts to increase diversity in the tech industry, others are suggesting a reduction in DEI programs. For more on business-related topics, visit Vaartha Business.
